FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

INMATE DEATH AT MONTÉE ST-FRANÇOIS INSTITUTION

Laval, Quebec, August 22, 2011 – On August 20, 2011, Luc Blain, an inmate at Montée St-François Institution, a minimum-security federal penitentiary located in Laval, died of apparent natural causes at the Cité de la Santé hospital.

Blain, 55, had been serving a life sentence for second degree murder, conspiracy and drug trafficking since 1993. His next of kin have been notified of his death.

As in all cases involving an inmate death, the police and the coroner were called in to investigate. The Correctional Service of Canada will also review the circumstances surrounding this incident.
