FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

INMATE DEATH AT ARCHAMBAULT INSTITUTION

LAVAL, Quebec, September 19, 2011 - On September 18, 2011, Mr. Tivadar Galantai, an inmate at Archambault Institution, a federal medium-security penitentiary located in Sainte-Anne-des-Plaines, died of apparent natural causes at the institutional Health Care Centre. He was pronounced dead by the institutional physician.

Galantai (75) had been serving his first indeterminate federal sentence for second degree murder, impaired driving and traffic offences (x4) since March 20, 1996. His next of kin have been notified of his death.

As in all cases involving an inmate death, the police and the coroner are called in to investigate. The Correctional Service of Canada will also review the circumstances surrounding this incident.
