FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

HOSTAGE TAKING AT COWANSVILLE INSTITUTION

Cowansville, Quebec, December 13, 2011– On December 13, 2011, at approximately 10:45 a.m., an inmate from medium-security Cowansville Institution barricaded himself in a room with a staff member.

Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) is currently in contact with the inmate in order to peacefully resolve the situation as quickly as possible.

As always, the safety and security of staff and inmates is a priority for CSC.
