Drummondville, Quebec, December 23, 2011– At approximately 13h50, on December 19, 2011, as a result of the vigilance of correctional staff at Drummond Institution, a medium-security federal penitentiary located in Drummondville, an object with suspicious content was recovered on the perimeter of the Institution.
Upon inspection, a total of 1712 grams of tobacco was concealed in the object. The estimated institutional value of the tobacco seized is $27,932.
CSC imposed a total smoking ban in all federal correctional facilities through a phased-approach on May 5, 2008.
CSC is strengthening measures to prevent unauthorized substance from entering institutions, in order to help ensure a safe and secure environment for everyone.
