Why was the policy changed?

This Commissioner's Directive has been revised to reflect the conversion to inmate owned canteens, and the health and hygiene entitlement.

What has changed?

Technical modifications have been made to the document. Substantive changes include:

  • conversion of all remaining CSC owned canteens to inmate owned canteens;
  • procedures for the administration of a $4 per pay period credit for the purchase of health and hygiene products; and

How was it developed?

This policy was revised collaboratively by the Correctional Operations and Programs Sector and the Strategic Policy Division.

Accountabilities?

The Assistant Commissioner, Correctional Operations and Programs, is accountable for this CD. Responsibilities for the various levels (i.e., National and Regional Headquarters, institutions) are outlined in the policy document.

Who will be affected by the policy?

The responsibilities of the Executive Committee, Regional Deputy Commissioners, and Institutional Heads have been revised. This policy also applies to staff involved with inmate owned canteens.
