Recommendations Of The Coroner's Inquest Into The Death Of Robert Gentles

Warning This Web page has been archived on the Web.

28. It is recommended that the Standing Operating Procedures (replacing the Security Manual) and the training in those procedures have been provided to all Correctional Officers within a year.

The Standing Operating Procedures replacing the Security Manual are currently in the final stages of review and will be promulgated in by the end of fiscal year 1999-2000. These procedures will be readily accessible in both hardcopy and electronic version for staff.

It should be noted that the Standing Operating Procedures are primarily a consolidation of a number of previous Commissioner's Directives, Security Bulletins and procedures outlined in the Security Manual. In this respect, the SOPs do not contain new security procedures or policies which would warrant a specific formalized training program. However, the Security Task Force will be reviewing the implementation of the SOP to ensure that staff are made aware of the new format and are familiar with all policies and procedures.
