Recommendations Of The Coroner's Inquest Into The Death Of Robert Gentles

Warning This Web page has been archived on the Web.

42. It is recommended that CSC continue to investigate the most appropriate device for transporting uncooperative inmates. (ie. Chair used by ambulances)

CSC'S RESPONSE:

A new ambulatory chair/stretcher has been acquired for formal testing and evaluation at Kingston Penitentiary. This device will be tested on site for three (3) months. It will also be offered for testing to the Prison for Women as this site has multi-tiers and it may prove suitable for safely removing unruly offenders, or those with health problems.

A written report will be submitted to Technical Services, NHQ. Depending on the results of this evaluation, the chair can be added to the Scale of Issue for use at other institutions.

In addition to the above, CSC will continue testing and evaluation of new products, as well as examining other options for the transportation of uncooperative inmates.
