Description of Program:
Working with young persons under the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA), their families, victims of crime and the community, the Restorative Community Conference Program promotes the restoring of relationships through victim’s voices, community engagement and offender accountability through the conferencing process. The restorative community conference emphasizes responsibility and accountability by the young person, recognition of the harm caused to the victim and encourages community involvement in repairing the harm
The Restorative Community Conference Program is designed to:
- provide opportunity for the young person to accept responsibility for his/her actions and repair the harm
- rebuild relationships between the young person and family, community and victim
- reintegrate the young person into his/her family and/or the community
- reduce recidivism
- provide opportunity for the victim to tell their story, identify and voice their needs and involve them in creating the justice response
- strengthen communities
- increase public confidence in the justice system
- ensure all conferences are based in restorative justice principles and values
Volunteers accepted
Target Groups: Youth 12-17 years of age, youth at high risk in the community and their victims.
