This year we are inviting Canadians to join us as we celebrate the 30th anniversary of the creation of the Correctional Service of Canada and the anniversary of our CSC crest.
In 1979, under a new crest and motto, the service was renamed and handed a more integrated, future-looking mandate: protecting communities by exercising humane control, while helping offenders become law-abiding citizens.
The 60s and 70s were decades of great change in the Canadian correctional system, with many administrative and operational reforms. Today we are once again undertaking a significant transformation to respond to the government’s commitment to enhancing public safety.
These goals can only be reached through the hard work and dedication of our people. Our employees take pride in their work—important work that they could not carry out without the tireless support of our partners, volunteers and stakeholders.
Through the celebration of our 30th anniversary, we at the CSC will reflect on our past traditions, culture and accomplishments, taking the lessons of the past with us into our future. Because when we do a better job, Canada is a safer place.
