National Volunteer Week (NVW) was established in 1943 to recognize Canadian volunteers who donate their time and energy assisting others and to raise awareness about the vital contribution volunteers make to our communities.
CSC is deeply indebted to volunteers for their active contribution to public safety. We encourage you to visit this site in the upcoming days, where highlights from this year’s NVW will be posted.
On behalf of Correctional Service Canada (CSC), I would like to sincerely thank you as volunteers for your ongoing support and commitment to the Service and to public safety.
By selflessly assisting offenders with their reintegration efforts, liaising with community partners, and supporting victims and families, you have helped numerous Canadians rebuild their lives.
As you may know, CSC recently underwent a thorough review of its operations by an independent review panel to respond to the Government's commitment to enhance public safety. Your service is especially needed as we respond to the panel's recommendations and move forward with our Transformation Agenda.
Thank you again for your continuous efforts. Your hard work and dedication truly make a difference in the lives of so many Canadians.

Approximately 9,000 Canadians, from all walks of life, volunteer at CSC - helping in our institutions as well as in the community. Volunteers contribute to a variety of institution-based programs including chaplaincy, recreation activities, classroom and workshop instruction, social events and cultural activities. In the community, volunteers support families of incarcerated offenders and help released offenders re-adjust to life in the community.
