Drumheller Institution is a medium-security facility with a minimum-security Annex located on the outskirts of Drumheller, Alberta, a community of about 7,800. Drumheller Institution opened in 1967 and can accommodate up to 558 inmates.

Medium-security inmates are housed mainly in four units. The Annex consists of nine living units with four shared bedrooms.

Personal development programs and general and vocational education programs are available. The Institution has also developed and implemented an employability skills acquisition program. Programs adapted to Aboriginal culture and spirituality are also available.
