About the Institution

Edmonton Institution for Women (EIFW) is a multi-level facility located in the western part of Edmonton, Alberta. It opened in 1995 and can accommodate up to 123 inmates.

Medium- and minimum-security inmates are accommodated in living units within a Structured Living Environment. Maximum-security inmates are accommodated in the Secure Unit.

EIFW offers a wide variety of programs including: substance abuse, anger management, academic program, Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous, living skills, computer science, psychiatric and psychological services, peer support, visits, Elders, chaplaincy, spiritual programs and resources for Aboriginal offenders, Your Warrior, Women Offender Substance Abuse Program, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy, Family Life Improvement Program and programs for survivors of abuse and trauma.
