About the InstitutionSASKATCHEWAN PENITENTIARY

Saskatchewan Penitentiary is a medium-security facility located one km west of Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. It opened in 1911 and can accommodate up to 633 inmates.

Inmates are housed in five operational units: four medium-security and one maximum-security. One unit is also designed for inmates with mental health problems who require constant surveillance.

A number of programs are available including cabinet making, a textile shop and a computer science program. The Penitentiary also plays an active role in reintegrating Aboriginal offenders through various programs.
