Support for Families from Day One

With the support of Kevin MacInnis (centre), Guy Lacroix (left), included the "Restorative Justice Approach to Families" presentation in the scheduled sessions for offenders at the Millhaven Assessment Unit. Lloyd Withers (right), gave the presentation to 1,026 offenders during the 18-month project.

In 2003 the Canadian Families and Corrections Network (CFCN) received a Contribution from the Correctional Service of Canada for a two-year demonstration project at Millhaven Assessment Unit (MAU) in the Ontario Region. The project used a restorative justice approach in which a Coordinator of Family Support provided information and referral service to families of offenders from the point at which the offender enters "the system".
