In the fall of 2002, a delegation of senior officials from the Corrections and Prisons Service of Saudi Arabia visited the Correctional Management Learning Center (CMLC) for the express purpose of exploring the Correctional Service of Canada's (CSC) methodologies in staff and management training.
In the summer of 2003, CSC and the Corrections and Prisons Service of Saudi Arabia began working together to develop a pilot training program for a delegation of Saudi correctional managers at the Correctional Management Learning Centre. With the support of officials from the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade (DFAIT) and the Ministry of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness Canada (PSEP), the four week training session was conducted in the summer of 2005 and was considered a resounding success for both Canada and Saudi Arabia. A second session was held in the fall of 2006.
Plans are underway for a third training session in 2007. Relations between CSC and the Corrections and Prisons Service of Saudi Arabia are positive and ongoing.
