17. It is recommended that CSC investigate alternative ways of more efficiently providing meals to inmates during a lockdown at Kingston Penitentiary.

CSC'S RESPONSE:

CSC Food Services has examined alternative means of providing meals to offenders during lockdowns at Kingston Penitentiary.

The selected method involves the use of heated food carts to deliver pre-portioned meals to the ranges. Previously, during lock-down situations, the procedure was to allow several inmates at a time to be released from their cells to go and pick up meals at the cafeteria. This process resulted in a distribution time of 3-4 hours to provide meals to the entire population. Using the new delivery method, the meal distribution is completed in less than two hours.
