53. It is recommended that press releases be accurate, precise and clear with no possibility of a misinterpretation of information. (i.e. gilding the lily)

CSC'S RESPONSE:

Press releases issued by the Correctional Service of Canada are intended to be accurate, factual and clear.

CSC officials responsible for preparing press releases must ensure that they conform to the Government of Canada's Communications Policy, several Treasury Board policies and Commissioner's Directive CD 022, all of which provide guidelines for disseminating information to the public.

During the approval process, press releases are vetted by the Assistant Commissioner, Communications and Consultation; the appropriate Sector and / or Regional Head; as well as the Commissioner of Corrections.

Furthermore, press releases concerning major announcements are approved by the Minister's office prior to their release.
