The annual Cops for Cancer fundraising drive at Atlantic Institution (AI) was a great success thanks to staff and inmates who raised over $3,700 for the Canadian Cancer Society.
Correctional Officer Paul Doiron, chairman of the venture, said, "The project was a great success! We had 13 inmates, 6 members of the RCMP and 20 staff here at Atlantic Institution shave their heads. It was a lot of fun for a good cause. We plan on making it an annual event."
The two inmate committees donated $500 while RCMP participants and AI staff raised the remainder of the funds. In 2002, the year that the event started in the institution, staff raised $4000 and then $2500 in 2003. Over the past three years the total has reached $10,200.![]()
