It was a beautiful sunny day for the second annual Terry Fox Run on Sunday, September 19, 2004. Pittsburgh Institution staff and inmates enthusiastically pitched in again this year to support a good cause and together they raised over $2,500 for cancer research.

The staff bought merchandise, pledged money and donated gifts for raffles. Inmates purchased merchandise and pledged each other on the walk to raise money. The kitchen staff provided refreshments that were greatly appreciated as the walk was done on site at Pittsburgh Institution and involved going down to the Rideau River and returning several times!

Thanks to all the staff who assisted and especially to Dave Moore, Admissions and Discharge, who went out of his way to help. An event such as this is beneficial for morale as everyone enjoys themselves and contributes to a worthwhile cause.

Almost half the offenders participated and over 85 certificates were given out. The winning runner was our own Parole Officer David Roff. He should be commended for not only participating but also for coming in first out of all participants. Warden Paul Snyder, Cathy Gelineau, Acting Assistant Warden, Correctional Programs, Lianne Zomer, Native Liaison, and coordinator of the event Social Program Officer Darlene Deans also attended.

We already have new ideas and plans in place for next year and look forward to it being a great success again. The success this year is certainly due to the kindness and cooperation of both staff and offenders. The event was rewarding and fun!end
