The Stony Mountain Institution Honour Guard attended the first Manitoba Police and Peace Officers Memorial Service, held on the steps of the Manitoba legislature building in Winnipeg on September 26, 2004.

During the ceremony Stony Mountain Correctional Officer II Doug Zawada read the names of the five Stony Mountain employees who have been killed while on duty over the years. "It brought back lots of memories," Zawada commented. "I knew three of these people very well."

The ceremony will be an annual event from this year onward.
