GUIDELINES 821-3 - CLEANING BLOOD AND/OR OTHER BODY FLUID SPILLS
What is new/changed?
New guidelines have been developed to respond to the findings of a national investigation that was convened following an incident in an institution. The Board of Investigation identified shortcomings with the procedures followed by staff to clean and decontaminate surfaces contaminated by blood and/or other body fluids. The national committee recommended that national guidelines be developed to address this issue.
How was it developed?
The Guidelines 821-3 were developed in collaboration with the National Joint Occupational Health and Safety Policy Committee, Health Services Sector, Legal Services, Technical Services Branch, Learning and Development Branch, Policy and Research Sector, Security Branch and Regional Headquarters staff.
Accountabilities?
Specific accountabilities are reflected within the Guidelines 821-3.
Who will be affected by the policy?
All staff, inmates and outside contractors involved in the cleaning of blood and/or other body fluid spills.
Expected cost?
There are no anticipated costs unless outside contactors are providing these cleaning services.

None.
