INTERNAL SERVICES DIRECTIVE 266-1 –
HALF-MASTING OF THE NATIONAL FLAG OF CANADA AND OTHER FLAGS

Why was the policy developed?

To establish procedures, in accordance with Government of Canada policy, on the half-masting of flags at the Correctional Service of Canada buildings and establishments in the event of a line-of-duty death of a CSC employee, or a death of a current Commissioner, Senior Deputy Commissioner, Regional Deputy Commissioner, Assistant Commissioner, or Deputy Commissioner for Women.

What has changed?

This is a new directive.

How was it developed?

The CSC Chief of Protocol, in consultation with CSC Strategic Policy and the Department of Canadian Heritage, developed the policy. No internal consultation was conducted due to the established protocols set out by Canadian Heritage.

Accountabilities?

The Assistant Commissioner, Communications and Engagement (ACCE), is the delegated authority for the implementation and administration of this directive.

The Chief of Protocol is responsible for the overall management of the protocols as they pertain to CSC.

Who will be affected by the policy?

CSC employees.

Expected cost?

None.

Other impacts?

The directive will allow CSC to follow a well-established Canadian procedure to bestow an honour and express a collective sense of sorrow when there is a death as prescribed in the policy.
