COMMISSIONER'S DIRECTIVE (CD) 568-4 – PRESERVATION OF CRIME SCENES AND EVIDENCE

Why was the policy changed?

Further to Policy Bulletin 353, dated June 13, 2012, and as a result of a Board of Investigation, a gap was identified with respect to the procedure to follow in the case where an offender is found dead.

What has changed?

Amendments were made in the procedures section. Paragraph 8 was added to specify that the police must be contacted in cases where an offender is found dead in an institutional or community setting. Paragraph 5 was moved from the Application section to paragraph 7 of the Procedures section. Some editorial changes were made throughout the CD.

How was it developed?

The policy change was developed by the Security Branch in consultation with the Strategic Policy Division.

CSC management and staff responsible to ensure compliance in this area.

Who will be affected by the policy?

Staff involved in the preservation of crime scenes and evidence in institutional and community settings.
