COMMISSIONER'S DIRECTIVE 726 – CORRECTIONAL PROGRAMS
Why was the policy changed?
This Commissioner's Directive (CD) has been revised to reflect changes to the Corrections and Conditional Release Act (CCRA), to comply with the recommendations of the Policy Review Task Force, and to generate efficiencies in the administration of correctional programs.
What has changed?
Technical modifications have been made to the document. Substantive changes include:
- The removal of the mandatory requirement for Correctional Program Officers (CPOs) to conduct post-program case conferences with Parole Officers (POs).
- The addition of responsibilities related to information sharing with victims.
- The re-assignment of responsibilities that were previously assigned to the Director, Interventions.
- The position title has been amended in paragraphs 7c and 8 to accurately reflect the responsibilities.
How was the policy developed?
This policy was revised collaboratively by the Correctional Operations and Programs Sector and the Strategic Policy Division.
Accountabilities?
The Assistant Commissioner, Correctional Operations and Programs, is accountable for this CD. Responsibilities for the various levels (i.e., National and Regional Headquarters, institutions and districts) are outlined in the policy document.
Who will be affected by the policy?
The Director, Citizen Engagement at National Headquarters, and Victim Services Officers now have responsibilities under this CD. Responsibilities of the Regional Deputy Commissioners, Regional Administrators, Assessment and Interventions (RAAIs), CPOs, POs and the Director, Reintegration Programs, have been revised.
