Jessie Sutherland, M.A. in Dispute Resolution, Specialist in Dialogue Design and Facilitation at the Justice Institute of British Columbia, is the founder of the Finding Home Initiative and the author of several books. Jessie has 20 years of experience in cross-cultural approaches to conflict resolution, restorative justice, dialogue processes, community development and international affairs. Jessie's work has taught her about the importance of transcending victim-offender cycles in both our global and personal our choices. Her values-based approach has proved effective in addressing personal and community challenges. Panelists Margot Van Sluytman teaches individuals how to write in order to find healing and transformation. She is the author of 12 books of poetry. Her book Sawbonna: Dialogue of Hope, to be published in 2009, received praise from Sister Helen Prejean, who wrote Dead Man Walking. After reading about an award that Margot received for her work with Transformative Language Arts, she was contacted by her father's murderer in Toronto in 1978. The two met and shared a rich encounter with hope and forgiveness. Margot has been invited to share her work with victims and offenders across Canada. Lazare Whiskeyjack is a member of the Saddle Lake Cree Nation. He worked in the Lower main land of British Columbia with Corrections as a Liaison, Elder and Spiritual Advisor. He also provided input with parole hearings for inmates. Lazare has experience with the Edmonton Maximum Security as the Spiritual Advisor and provided Circle Processes, Sweat lodge, and Ceremonies for the inmates. Lazare worked in a school setting as a youth worker with Head of the Lake, in Skatin Nation, BC. He has acquired knowledge of First Nations Traditions, and was involved in a documentary called "Things We Do for Love". |
