This line graph shows the number of federal offenders with homicide, sex, robbery and/or drug offences from 1998 to 2008. The number of homicide offenders has been increasing slowly over time from 4,695 in 1998 to 5,540 in 2008. The number of sex offenders decreased steadily from 3,676 in 1998 to 2,895 in 2005 and then increased slightly to 3,154 in 2008. The number of robbery offenders has been decreasing slowly over the ten-year period from 6,850 in 1998 to 6,276 in 2008. The drug offender population increased slightly in the late 1990's from 5,437 in 1998 to 5,779 in 2000, decreased slightly to 5,504 in 2003 and then increased again to 6,433 in 2008.
