The Policy Centre for Victim Issues at the Department of Justice Canada implements the Federal Victim Strategy. It gives victims an effective voice in the criminal justice system. It develops policy and criminal law reform, administers the Victims Fund and shares information about issues that are important to victims of crime.
Office of the Federal Ombudsman for Victims of Crime
The Office of the Federal Ombudsman for Victims of Crime (OFOVC) is an independent resource for victims in Canada. The Office was created to ensure that the federal government meets its responsibilities to victims of crime. Victims can contact the Office to learn more about their rights and the services available to them. The can also make a complaint about any federal legislation or agency that deals with victims of crime.
National Office for Victims
The National Office for Victims in the Department of Public Safety is a national point of contact for victims who have questions and concerns about the federal correctional and conditional release system and the Canadian justice system.
Parole Board of Canada
The Parole Board of Canada (PBC) is an independent administrative tribunal that makes decisions about conditional release, record suspension and clemency recommendations. The Board has authority to grant, cancel, terminate or revoke an offender’s day parole and full parole.
Royal Canadian Mounted Police
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) is the national Canadian police service and an agency of the Department of Public Safety Canada. The RCMP works in close partnership with victim services organizations to ensure victims of crime receive the support they need without delay.
Federal support grants for parents of missing or murdered children: Provides income support for parents who have taken time away from work to cope with death or disappearance of a child.
