It is more common for a crime to be committed by someone the victim knows than by a stranger. Consequently, victims are often in a family relationship with the offender, or the victim may have been in a relationship with the offender that has ended. This often creates a complex dynamic between the offender, the victim and possibly other family members.
CSC is deepening its understanding of the experience of family-victims. We offer services and information to victims whether they decide to remain in contact with the offender or not. Victims of crime who are family members of the offender may register with CSC. Many victims who register with CSC to receive information continue to have a relationship with the offender who harmed them.
