Job profile – Tradesperson

Male Tradesperson Welding Rivets

A key factor in the successful reintegration of an offender into the community is getting a job upon their release. Many offenders choose to learn one of the many trades that are taught at Correctional Service of Canada institutions. They include:

  • Electricians
  • Plumbers
  • Construction Workers
  • Carpenters
  • Roofers
  • Welders
  • Machinists
  • Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning specialists

Most tradespersons employed by CSC work in a team environment, with the assistance of three or four offenders. This type of working relationship helps to foster understanding and trust; two essential elements that benefit offenders upon release.

Learning a trade is a proven approach that allows an offender to get marketable skills. The time that offenders spend developing these trade skills at CSC institutions can often be credited towards a provincially certified trade apprenticeship.
