CSC video - A career in health care (short version)

Transcript for A Career in Health Care at CSC Video

In CSC, I've been able to do a lot of interesting things such as working with infectious disease, health teaching, management even, that are very unique to environment where we are almost a little microcosm of the bigger health care system. I think that's one of the things that attracts nurses to CSC, but it's definitely one of the things that keeps them here.

The most interesting aspect of my job is being a part of the big picture of public safety so other than sitting in a parole office and offering support there, we're involved with the police, and we're involved with the courts. Often, depending on the case, I connect with Children's Aid Society. Really what the needs of the client are determine who I connect with and I think that it's just a great chance to network and meet all sorts of different people.

Correctional Service(s) was a black box to me before I started to work here and I think that we drove by it every day of our lives and we never really anticipated what was going on inside except there were a lot of bad guys. The reality is it's a very close-knit family of people who work very well together and who are mutually supportive. I would have to say that it's actually a very great joy to walk into the penitentiary every morning to be with people who like to be with you.
