Institutional profiles: Prairie region: Regional Psychiatric Centre
The Regional Psychiatric Centre (RPC) is located on land leased from the University of Saskatchewan within the city of Saskatoon. RPC is approximately 140 kilometres south west of Saskatchewan Penitentiary near Prince Albert, Saskatchewan.
RPC originally opened in 1978. RPC was originally designed to be a leading edge mental health facility, based on the concept of a forensic mental hospital - a mental hospital with the security provisions to also function as a federal correctional institution.
The RPC site layout is based on a courtyard model and the offenders are housed in direct observation living units.
