Policy Bulletin

Policy Bulletin 430

Why was the policy changed?

This policy has been revised to reflect legislative requirements, to respond to recommendations made by Boards of Investigations, and to clarify the application of the CD.

What has changed?

Several modifications have been made to the document. These include:

  • the CD was renamed “Death of an Inmate: Notifications and Funeral Arrangements” to better reflect the Purpose and Application sections;
  • a Responsibilities and Procedures section has been added, which includes details on the notifications that must be completed, financial responsibilities, and fingerprinting requirements following an inmate death;
  • a new look, resulting in stand-alone English and French versions;
  • a clearer context for the policy document by including its relation to the Program Alignment Architecture, the Office(s) of Primary Interest as well as information on dates of past reviews and future ones;
  • the purpose, which replaces the “policy objective”, is more practical in nature; and
  • a more concise language/style is used throughout the document.

How was it developed?

This policy was updated by the Institutional Reintegration Operations and the Community Operations Divisions in cooperation with the Strategic Policy Division and was the subject of national consultation.

Accountability?

Institutional Heads and District Directors are responsible for ensuring compliance with this CD. Additional staff responsibilities are included in the directive.

Who will be affected by the policy?

Other impacts?
