Why was the policy changed?

A settlement from the Canadian Human Rights Commission has resulted in an amendment to address the new terms around hypo-allergenic hygiene items.

This change will be reflected in the forthcoming revisions of CD 352 – Inmate Clothing Entitlements over the next 12 months.

What has changed?

Effective immediately, paragraph 6 of CD 352 – Inmate Clothing Entitlements will include an additional sub-paragraph c.

c. ensure that hypo-allergenic hygiene items required by inmates, when recommended by an institutional physician, be provided to the offender at no cost.

How was it developed?

Technical Services and Facilities Branch, in consultation with Health Services and Strategic Policy Division, prepared this Interim Policy Bulletin.

Who will be affected by the policy?

Medical staff and Institutional Services staff will be affected by this policy change.
