Commissioner’s Directive (CD) 822 – Medical Isolation and Modified Routine for COVID-19

Why was this policy developed?

Commissioner’s Directive (CD) 822 – Medical Isolation and Modified Routine for COVID-19 has been developed in order to assist staff in identifying and managing inmates subject to medical isolation and to modified routine for health purposes.

Given the urgent need to implement measures to prevent the spread of this disease, this policy is being provisionally promulgated without formal consultation. To ensure transparency, a formal internal and external consultation process will occur simultaneous to promulgation. Once all feedback has been received and considered, the policy will be revised and the normal approval and promulgation process will be undertaken.

What has changed?

The responsibilities and procedures to implement the process to identify inmates who will be subject to medical isolation, as well as the procedures and management of these measures and those of modified routine for health purposes related to COVID-19 are well detailed within the policy.

How was it developed?

This new policy document was developed by the Health Services Sector, in consultation with the National Headquarters Sector Heads, the Regional Deputy Commissioners, Regional Directors of Health Services, the Correctional Operations and Programs Sector, the Women Offender Sector, Legal Services, and the Policy Sector.

Who will be affected by the policy?

Applies to all CSC staff and contractors working in institutions, excluding Community Correctional Centres.
