Why was the policy changed?

The above new Guidelines have been published pursuant to paragraph 2a of Commissioner’s Directive (CD) 786 – Victim Complaints, which grants the authority to the Assistant Commissioner, Communications and Engagement, to develop guidelines in reference to the victim complaint process.

What has changed?

GL 786-1 provide detailed procedures to facilitate the application of CD 786. The purpose of these Guidelines is to establish a victim complaint process that is fair, consistent and timely, pursuant to section 25 of the Canadian Victims Bill of Rights.

How was it developed?

These Guidelines were developed by the Restorative Justice and Victim Services Division in consultation with the Regional Victim Services Managers, Legal Services, the Access to Information and Privacy Division, and the Strategic Policy Division at National Headquarters.

Accountabilities?

The roles and responsibilities are outlined in the Guidelines.

Who will be affected by the policy?

All staff involved in addressing complaints from victims.
